Pieter Wagemans

"The orange flowerpiece" was made in the classical techniques of the 17th century.

"Already at a young age I preferred the classic tradition of painting techniques. At 14 I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. After the Academy at about 20 years old I started studying the classic Flemish Masters whom had created a huge tradition of oil painting. After many years, I’m using the same technique, and paint in different layers. I often prefer a wooden surface or a very fine canvas. Sometimes I teach people who are interested to know the old Flemish techniques. For a considerable period of time I made very large wall and ceiling paintings in old historical buildings on mythological subjects.

Recently my preference goes out to still lives and flower pieces depicting classic art works. Over time my paintings are getting more and more detailed. I always provide some antique objects as composition for still lives, these objects are often handmade, nice to paint and the have their own history. My flower pieces have always been made in the studio from natural flowers, they are achieved one by one with a progress of one or two flowers a day. I never use photographs. I am also a collector of antique religion art objects which I have used in my compositions. The feeling of the same professionalism of the 17the century painters makes my work very successful by collectors in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, and Japan. I often work to order."
